Buzz Aldrin also fixed a short circuit aboard the eagle lander with a ball point pen. Had he not done that, they would have been left stranded on the moon. It would have been a total disaster.
Don’t forget the crucial role that ductape played in saving the Apollo 13 astronauts. They used ductape to make the LEM’s incompatible CO2 scrubbers work with the command module’s hardware.
How much do you think the rover weighs. Dry cell batteries, motor, drive train, no air metal tires, 200 lb plus? Stuck on the side of the lander as NASA claims. and the lander with one rocket booster in the middle of it. and they landed it with the center of gravity off to one side. Hard to believe if you ask me. 1969.
Hahahaaa! This one made my day (or probably even my year)…yet another stupid idiot questions the authenticity of one of Mankind’s greatest achievements. A suggestion; maybe you should go kill yourself right now and save the world the hassle of dealing with your equally mindless progeny in the future. Now THAT would be the best thing that you could possibly do for the rest of Mankind. Yeeeaaahhh!!!!

@Donovan: the motor’s on little joints called gymbals, which means it can point in any direction to balance the LM. And trust me, they balanced that rover (which weighed one-sixth of the 200 lbs. on the moon, which I keep telling folks is NOT Main Street) with instruments, tools, and those seismic charges (boom!). Them astronauts gots big ones, of brass, for sure. They’re so brassy, they can drop sixty million dollars worth of LM in on a landing site, BY HAND, BY EYE. I’m told it’s actually easier than a night carrier landing….
@Donovan
what’s your point?
and are you really trying to suggest that the team that was able to put all that other stuff together – including the saturn five rocket, STILL humanity’s most complex machine that’s not actually made of microscopic silicon – couldn’t figure out a simple thing such as “duhh, where’s teh center of gravidee, where shud we put d’uvva few 100 lbs of stuff we need inda landa ta balanss agenst the rover, how shud we direct da rokit frust?”. 200lbs is very light for any kind of vehicle too… lets say 1 and a half astronauts, or just one with their suit on?
Also, moron: moon gravity. Sure, meaningless when thrusting thru space, but makes your life easier on takeoff and landing re: balance and amount of fuel needed.
Troll intelligence fail, but possibly intent successful
there ALWAYS has to be a moron out there who comes out with that idiotic comment about the moon landings being fake or filmed on a sound stage. please say something intelligent or shut the @#$%^ up!
Why? Because sunlight couldn’t possibly be bouncing off of the bright white dirt immediately behind and next to the metal tire, lighting it up?
Light on the moon works exactly the same as light on the Earth, minus the glow of the sky or atmospheric effects like mist or wavy desert air. It bounces all over the place, just like it does here.
Nothing even as mysterious as the light being reflected around. Look at the line of the wheel vs. the line of the body. The front of the wheel is turned in toward the body, so that the back edge of the wheel is turned toward us–and the light–not parallel with the back of the LRV. (Maybe to make it easier to work on the thing?)
Yeah, and with a decent high powered telescope on a clear night you can actually see all the fake rover tracks that we planted on the moon surface for all the fake moon landings that we faked over and over just to cover our tracks and prove that it was all for real…. and not fake.
@Donovan
haha really? how much do you think a 200 lb vehicle weighs on the moon? NASA probably figured they would need to balance it too, but who knows…they could just be bad story tellers
@isi
Just a guess, but probably to prevent dust or small rocks from getting thrown up and into the equipment at the back of the rover. The wire mesh tires are, at least to some extent, made for grip and must therefore be able to sling a considerable amount of dust around (As I believe is visible in some of the “fake” footage taken in the “sound studio”…)

There’s no telescope either on Earth or in our orbit that can resolve those things. Only recently did we get a robotic imager to the Moon that could actually image Apollo’s landing site, lunar rover tracks, etc.
@Blacktape
I thought Mars was a hoax and that it was really a big goiter that flew into outer space and got stuck there. Just ask Bart Sibrel, he’s a reliable source… (NOT)
Houston we had a problem.
Bad ass.

Those guys had nerves of steel.

With all the Duct Tape used by NASA, you know there had to be a Red Neck or two mixed in with all those engineers.
Why isn’t this tagged ‘duct tape’?
the moon landings were fake.

Hey, at least it’s not tagged ductape, or even worse, duck tape.

I dug this video out of an old Nasa archive a while back. Here it is in 2 parts.

Arguing on the internet?
Life Fail.
duct tape was used in a lot of famous historical events. the first nuclear bomb ever made (a test in new mexico) had duct tape all over it.
@steven
You are fake.
“No one will ever notice.. They don’t have to know you were drunk.”
this is photoshoped. their ain’t no light at the rear of the buggey, so their should not be on the back of the tire either.
To Hugo:
The tire is a wire Mesh and lets light trough…

Too cool. Thanks for the link. Very informative.
But what does all of this have to do with Michael Jackson?
Oh, yeah. Moonwalk.
@Donovan
Luckily, it wasn’t up to you to land it.
@Donovan

what’s the use of a mudguard on the moon??
@isi

You’re an idiot.
@no
are you sure it’s a short circuit? i heard that hes lost a safety pin required to activate the thing and the pen fits.
Dude! The moon landing was totally staged, Everyone knows they filmed it on Mars. >:)
There’s no telescope either on Earth or in our orbit that can resolve those things. Only recently did we get a robotic imager to the Moon that could actually image Apollo’s landing site, lunar rover tracks, etc.
This is a subtler one.
