I can’t decide if I should be worried about all the electrical wires or the planks propping the building up.

  2. Daniel says:

My crystal ball sees a return of the woodchuck debate.

  3. Bruce says:

Heck with the electrical wires, they are replaceable. I’d be a lot more worried about the People Still Living And Working In The Building, and the People Walking By in the collapse radius.

This looks suspiciously like “We propped it up, Okay we’re done. It’s good for another 50 years.”

    • Sofar says:

Hell, that’s all earthquake restoration is most of the time. You should see the interesting ways they’ve propped up buildings in Seattle. Speaking as an architecture student, I’ll bet you a thousand dollars it holds for fifty years. People don’t give buildings enough credit, particularly ones that have lasted a while already.

  4. Nate says:

    That does not look healthy.

Where is OSHA when you need them?

O yeah, that’s right, all our jobs were sent to China, cause without OSHA, they had less overhead!

    Another fine Lincoln Log construction.

  6. Bodgeitandscarper says:

We do that in the UK as well – view “356 Morningside Road, Edinburgh” on Google maps. Above the single pair of shops, there is a wooden brace keeping up the side of the building along with some metal staples keep the walls together.

    Obama’s urban renewal plan…

( The empty slot behind the blue curtain. )

  9. chacha mcgyver says:

I think it’s a brilliant fix. If that building had been allowed to continue to migrate, it would have ended up in the street in no time. Then where would all those pedestrians be?

  10. Responder says:

Just out of frame is the Incident Command Post the owners were courteous enough to set up for the inevitable collapse.

  11. nimrod says:

Oh my god! If that building collapses, all of those shirts hung out to dry will be ruined!

  12. dono1 says:

“Now, this store is expensive, so brace yourself…”

  13. Jo says:

The blue tarp in the back is a nice touch…Hey fema doesnt go to nepal do they

  14. husabob says:

Now we know what is supporting Microsofts support center. Third party support? “Press 3 if an additional pole is required”. Are they required to pay a pole tax? The Polish Embassy?

  15. Anna Rexia says:

Newly listed! One-bedroom flats, eight total, each with balcony access. All share a communal bathroom at the end of each hall. Recent renovations! These are going fast!

  16. Zero Msc says:

I would be worried about a really big teenager kicking a plank out….

  17. one small step says:

The tenants got together and demanded fire escape access! Their landlord (primate curator at the zoo) did things on the cheap as usual.

  18. fonetik says:

There must be a crowd of people camped out in front of this thing just waiting to scream “JENGA!”

  19. Goldie says:

I see what happened. There was a building where the blue tarp is hung, and for whatever reason, that collapsed, but not the corner building. Which is kind of “huh”, because they must have shared a wall. So actually, all they need to do is remove the debris and either build another building or put in supports.

  20. SIhaya says:

This is an clearly advertising stunt. The blue street signs say, “Watch for falling prices (and bricks).”

  21. Demetrius says:

You misunderstand… The woman on the 4th floor is dating a stilt-walker.

  22. yolanda says:

The building was being supported by it`s ties to the empty gap behind, where I`m sure they`re installing a new building shortly. After that, the posts, which are joined to the window headers (actually a good spot) can be removed. It probably works really well, actually, but sure looks crazy!

  23. TheAntiCat says:

O my Gawd, the bar’s collapsing! Somebody save the beer!

  24. Actually this is the normal practice in Nepal.

  25. fordprefect says:

I still maintain there are not enough posts in this forum.

  26. Jorge says:

India’s Olympic pole vaulting team really likes to show off don’t they?

  27. Stefan says:

They’re using giant chopsticks to eat those yummy motorcycles.

  28. danno says:

A fine example of that rarely used feature of Gothic architecture – crashing buttresses

  29. Livin on the edge says:

Now kids, I know we are moving but the rule about not running in the house goes doubly important in our new place. Are we Clear?

  30. Pepijn says:

Didn’t this building actually come done not too long ago?

  31. Obsquatch says:

Godzilla had enough at the all you an eat building buffet and left his chopsticks behind
