  1. Fiaca says:

Damn! The sea of cobblestones is getting higher every minute!
    I curse you, global warming

  2. elg3 says:

I guess the correct size wrench for opening this fixture is the pickax ..

  3. Daniel says:

Is this in Florida? I hear they have those underground fires over there.

  4. JB says:

If they setup fire hydrantlike that I wonder how they install lawn sprinklers!

  5. Haywood says:

Doesn’t look like a fire hydrant but just a coupling. Why they cemented it into the ground is still a mystery though.

  6. Demetrius says:

The curb appeal of your nice, new brick paver driveway will surely be enhanced by the lack of distraction once your house burns down. Good job!

  7. Wolfen says:

Guess they wanted to create a down spout.

  8. nimrod says:

Fire hydrant thought he was pretty clever not paying his debts to the mob…

  9. DB says:

I’m waiting for the instant lawsuit when someone trips over the thing. . . .

  10. Owashii says:

“Well, they finally did it. They killed my f***ing fire hydrant.”

  11. Ponty Mython says:

This fire hydrant is no more! It has ceased to be! It’s expired and gone to meet his maker! It’s a stiff! Bereft of life, it rests in peace! If it was not sinking in the pavement, it’d be pushing up the daisies! Its metabolic processes are now history! It’s off the twig! It has kicked the bucket, it’s shuffled off its mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin’ choir invisibile! This… is an ex-fire hydrant!

  12. slim says:

Wow! Tiger knocked the crap outta that thing!!

  13. slim says:

Is this in Abu Dhabi? No wonder they couldn’t sell enough units to make their bond payments.

  14. boynorth says:

Has anyone taken a close look – it does not appear to be a hydrant – rather teh brass hose couplings and caps – or am I way off base on this one??? –

Just doesn’t look like any hydrant I have ever seen

  15. strangeknight says:

Farmer Bill’s crop of hydrants would be ready in time for harvest….

  16. Owashii says:

Lebowski says: “Well, they finally did it. They killed my freaking fire hydrant.”

  17. E-Man says:

    I guess it’s a fire hydrant-turned-fountain….

  18. bryan says:

That’s actually not a fire hydrant. It’s a FDC(Fire Dept Connection). The firefighters get their water from the hydrant and pumps them into these to go into the buildings.

    • Bruce says:

Well, they connect the pumper water to this FDC inlet to boost the sprinkler system flow, and/or feed the stairwell dry standpipe – *after* they dig out the pavers on both sides, get the caps off, and get a hose connected.

Hey Charlie! You read the blueprints wrong! This Standpipe is supposed to be mounted with the top 24 _inches_ above finished grade, not 24 _millimeters_…

    • Bard says:

Well the fire department won’t be pumping anything through this, regardless of what it is.

  19. Break26 says:

You see kids? This is Rip Van Wrinkle as a fire hydrant.

  20. boynorth says:

Bryan – thanks – I was hoping someone with a working knowledge of firefighting equipment would identify it -

  21. Milky says:

    Fore!!!

  22. TBJ says:

This is obviously a relic from the separate-but-equal era of molemen/surface dweller segregation.

  23. Kees says:

Pay attention, kids! Gather ’round… Good. Now, here we see a wild fire hydrant in the second stage of its life. As you know, they start out as fire extinguishers planted under the pavement at the side of a road. Slowly they develop into semi-hydrants known as ‘pedestrian trippers’, of which we see an example here. Pretty soon this beautiful little thing will grow into a fully grown fire hydrant, capable of repelling its enemies with a powerful jet of water.

  24. best says:

YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED! RESISTANCE IS FUTILE!

  25. Peter says:

if i may not wrong……it ’s somewhere in Bangkok.!

  26. DanM says:

    There’s a dog under it.

  27. Asuna says:

*fire truck pulls up* “…..Yup…that’s a fire hydrant in cobble stones.”
“HELP HELP!!! PUT OUT MY HOUSE!!!”
“Sorry we have to wait till Public Works shows up to get us a jack hammer”

  28. rbnzdave says:

And here, we see the predatory fire hydrant lying in wait, exhibiting near perfect camoflage, until its prey, the elusive parked car, unknowingly approaches.

  29. BobbyMcheese says:

…As the fire hydrant’s preditor, the firetruck, comes up, the hydrant changes it’s color to dark red with ash spots and hides halfway down in the pavment…

  30. Jim says:

I can tell you that is in Korea. I walked those stones many a year and I know them well.

  31. Lilly Todd says:

…words fail me to descibe the stupidity of people…
