    Looks like its been photoshopped

  2. Dogmeat says:

One of these things is not like the others.
One of these things just doesn’t belong.
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
Before the person goes to jail for what he did wrong?

  3. slimdune says:

    Looks shopped.

  4. JB says:

This kludge is a piece of street smart engineering! Will resist earthquakes and can accommodate a 18 inch-wide fault!

  5. JimmyMcJimbo says:

I like that he also took off the tap handle so that its not as easy for ‘the company’ to turn it off on him.
Ima go do the same with my electricity supply, ill just chuck a thick peice of fencing wire in where the meter normaly sits, then ill padlock the box shut so they can never change it! Ahahahahahar!

    • Sarge says:

Oh yeah: The padlock will stop them. No way they have access to bolt cutters, cutting torches and heavy machinery.

      • JimmyMcJimbo says:

Yes, just like the lack of a tap handle will stop the water company!
You may be a non believer, but while im enjoying free water & electricity, you will be cold & thirsty!
        Ahahahahahar!

      • A Random Pooka says:

Just put up a sign that says “I am not stealing. Please move along. Nothing to see here.”

    • KC says:

Sherrrrrrrrrrr, that’ll fix them! Not!!! You ever hear of that handy dandy option the utility companies have called “estimated billing?” That’s where they will use the absolute highest usage month within the past 2 years & charge you the same amount until you blow a gasket, send them a reading, which they refute for at least another month before they send a reader out, but you WILL be charged a big, fat amount, no matter what you do to foul up access to the meter, so your inane idea is chock full o’ FAIL.

  6. treborx says:

obviously well below the frost line.

  7. slapchop says:

    Lovely Rita meter maid
    Nothing can come between us
Please don’t report this theft of utility!

    Standing by the water meter
When I caught a glimpse of Rita,
Filing a report in her little white book.
The look on her face was never meaner
Than when she witnessed this misdomeanor,
Or, maybe in some states it’s a felony!

    Lovely Rita meter maid
    May I inquire discreetly,
Do you know the name of a real good attorney?

  8. Lucille says:

    Looks photoshopped

  9. slapchop says:

The irony is, this guy who risks prosecution, probably pays $1.79 for a plastic bottle of Aquafina.

  10. Mogma says:

There are too many things wrong with that photograph, the angle of the return curve on the white pipe, the white tap that isn’t connected to anything useful, and what is that yellow pipe, where does it go at this end?

    • slapchop says:

      I can explain:

The yellow pipe is connected with the white pipe, the white pipe’s connected with the white valve, the white valve is connected with the steel line, and that’s how the water lines are plumbed.

    • Agreed. The picture looks fake as all get out.

    • dono1 says:

      Here’s what I see:
Five water supply lines on the left side of the picture. The top two are pretty straight forward- in one end of the meter and out the other. The middle line is connected to a white plastic hose, which makes a loop and is then connected to the galvanized pipe fitting on the right. The next line (2nd from bottom) has the meter connected to the outgoing pipe via a short length of hose with a hose clamp on each end.
Finally, the bottom line has a tee at the top of the pipe that goes into the ground, which is connected to an ell, which is connected to a white plastic valve which feeds the thin yellow hose that trails across the cement, presumably to water the grass, wash the car, or something of that nature.
So, bottom two could be called kludges and middle could be called thievery… unless it was a temporary fix by the water company because the meter was broken.

  11. jpburns says:

the water company’s getting hosed on this deal.

  12. blytherubbings says:

someone is going to get their neck locked in the jogs for this

  13. Troberg says:

I had a similar construction for about a month, placed their by my local water company when my meter froze. We had two weeks at -30C, and they ran out of meters as they started popping all over the place, so, they just put a pipe there instead.

  14. dono1 says:

This sure is a new twist on stealing from the utility company.

  15. jon says:

    hahaha… i like this… i can’t believe it but i think it’s real :D

  16. Matt says:

If he was real smart he would have done it to all of them. Then when he would get caught, he and the other five people would all say “It wasn’t me”

  17. costume_fly says:

    Why would somebody steal water?

  18. topher says:

i live in calgary, alberta, canada. we pay for all water use coming into our homes.

  19. AgentFrank says:

Just looks like a fixed rate service. Round these parts residential consumers with some of the local utilities pay a fixed rate, while a commercial customer pays by useage. Could be the service line for an apartment above a store.

  20. kara says:

    Is that legal?

  21. miceuz says:

we just used a strong magned for metal – based meters untill they changed to plastic based ones. stops a meter and is untraceable.

  22. bearcuban12 says:

the thread is exactly the same on the water meters here in australia, so you are able to turn the meter around, and the more water you use, the lower your bill gets.

  23. Michael says:

Where I live water *is* free.

  24. J says:

Sadly, the homeowner was killed a short time later trying to avoid paying for natural gas service.

    • Archangel says:

There *ARE* a number of people killed each year by trying to do the same thing here with their electricity and/or natural gas.

  25. Chaetophile says:

“Honey? Did you pay the toothpaste bill? You did? Great, thanks. Love yuh.”

  26. Shriic says:

    pay for water? that’s Reticlulous

  27. TechGuru says:

Having to pay for anything that God created is ridiculous.

My water is free, I just pay for the electricty to pump it out of the ground and into the house. 1/2HP motor @ 240V, it’s not too much a month.
